How to Record Your Screen and Face with Canva

How to record your screen and face with canva

As a digital entrepreneur, one of my favorite ways to create content is to educate my audience on all things branding, website design, and mindful entrepreneurship.

Screen recordings – when you record your laptop screen and/or face bubble as you explain something or do a tutorial – are a great way to create educational content.

Screen recordings make it easy to show exactly what you’re doing step-by-step because you’re recording your actions as you go! Plus, with a recording of your face, you can show emotions and make your videos more personal.

I typically use an app called Loom to do my screen recordings, but did you know that you can do it with Canva, too? It’s completely free and you can record any screen or browser on your computer as well as a talking head bubble! In this article, I’m going to show you exactly how to do it 🥳

How to Record Your Screen and Face with Canva in 8 Steps

If you’re more of a visual learner, watch the video below! ⬇️

1. Create a Design

The first thing you’re going to do is head over to your Canva account and click on Create a Design. For this tutorial, I’m going to use the YouTube Video Canvas, but you can also do screen recordings in other video dimensions!

The first step to recording your face and screen with Canva. Go to your Canva account and click "Create a Design" in the top right hand corner.

    2. Go to Uploads

Once you have your Canvas open, go to Uploads. You can find it on the left-side menu!

Open up your canvas to start recording your screen and face with Canva.

        3. Press “Record Yourself”

Right under Upload Files, you’ll see a Record Yourself option. Press that, and the recording studio will open!

Press "Record Yourself" to enter the Canva recording studio.

        4. Choose Your Settings

In the recording studio, there are a few settings that you can choose from. You can record with just your camera (if you only want to record your face), just your screen (if you only want to record your laptop screen), or both.

You can also choose what camera you want to use (your default laptop or an external one) and your mic. If you’re recording your laptop screen, you can choose if you want to record one tab, a window, or your entire screen.

Adjust your recording settings, choosing whether you want to record your camera, screen, or both.

          5. Click on Record

Once you’ve adjusted your settings, it’s time to press Record! You can find that button right under your recording canvas.

Press record (you can find the button on the bottom of your screen).

            6. Create Your Recording

Click back into the tab to start recording. You’ll notice that while you’re recording your screen, you can’t see your talking head bubble. But don’t worry, it’s still being recorded if you’ve chosen that setting!

Create your video and click on Done

Once you finish creating your screen recording, click Done.

              7. Save and Exit

Once you’re done with your screen recording, click on Save and Exit in the top right corner of the editor. Canva is going to upload your videos for you to edit.

Save and exit to start editing your screen recording.

                8. Adjust Your Video

Adjust your video to take up the entire screen and move your talking bubble recording to where you’d like it to be. You can move it anywhere on your recording. Watch your video to test it out and make any further changes if necessary!

Adjust your video to make sure it looks how you want it to look.

And just like that, your screen recording is ready to be shared with the world! 😊

The Pros and Cons of Screen Recording on Canva

I love the screen recording feature on Canva because it’s free and easy to use. You can also get creative with where you place your talking head bubble. Overall, it works really well and can be a fantastic solution for digital entrepreneurs!

That said, the screen recordings come out in quite low resolution (especially when compared to other apps like Loom). Plus, you can’t see yourself when you’re recording your screen and the talking bubble, which can feel awkward.
