Lately, I’ve been experimenting with some of Canva’s newer features and today I want to show you how to add on-brand music to your Instagram posts that set a vibey mood and evoke emotions in your ideal audience!

Below you’ll find a step-by-step guide, but if you’re more of a visual learner, watch this video:

1. Choosing the right music for your brand

Choosing your music goes back to your brand strategy. When first crafting your business, you’ve probably done some brainstorming around what kind of brand personality your business would have. If your brand was a person, what would they love? Where would they shop? Who would they be friends with? You want to ask and remind yourself of who your brand is before picking music for your posts.

Once you’re clear on all those things, you can shift your mind to the visuals and audio. What would your brand like to listen to? What would your target audience expect from you?

For my brand specifically, I want people to be inspired and educated in a relaxing space. That’s why you’re not going to see dark or bold colors on my social channels and because of that my music has a sweet, calm and inspirational tone to it.

2. Creating your video Instagram post in Canva

There are many ways to create an animated/video based Instagram post. Here is another blog post about how to create a scrolling video graphic on Canva.

3. Adding music to your Canva post

In the left side panel in Canva, you’ll see the “Music” tab with lots of different categories. Have a browse around to find what fits your brand personality best.

Once you find a song you like, you can drag the music into your Instagram post and start making adjustments to fit your preferences! Choose which section of the song you would like to use by dragging the bar at the top to a specific area of the track.

You can then click the play button at the top right to ensure the music coordinates with your video.

4. Downloading your Instagram video

All that’s left to do is to download the file and you’re good to go!

To save the video to your desktop, click “Download” at the top right and make sure you’re downloading the video as an MP4 file.

Congrats! You just created your very first Instagram video with on-brand music in Canva!
